Jodie Turner-Smith Claims Estranged Husband Joshua Jackson Owes Child and Spousal Support
Jodie Turner-Smith has alleged that her estranged husband, Joshua Jackson, owes her both child and spousal support amid their divorce. New court documents reveal significant claims made by Turner-Smith.
Turner-Smith, 38, claims that Jackson has not provided any child support following their separation announcement in October 2023. She seeks $8,543 monthly in child support, retroactive to her initial filing date. TMZ was the first to report this development.
In addition to child support, Turner-Smith is requesting $28,641 per month in spousal support while their divorce proceedings continue. Although she previously sought to terminate spousal support requests, she now seems to have altered her stance.
Furthermore, she is asking the court to mandate Jackson to cover $250,000 in attorney fees and related costs during their legal process.
Turner-Smith stated that Jackson "promised to always support me" and assured her financial security for their daughter in case of separation, acknowledging the challenges faced by Black women and single mothers. She maintains that Jackson earned more during their four-year marriage and accused him of extending the divorce proceedings to increase legal fees.
Her legal documents depict Jackson as "reneging" on his commitment to support her and their 4-year-old daughter. This child was welcomed by the former couple in April 2020.
Turner-Smith filed for divorce from Jackson in October 2023, citing "irreconcilable differences". She specified that they separated on September 13, 2023. Turner-Smith expressed a desire for joint custody over their child in her initial filing.
Despite the turbulence of their legal proceedings, Turner-Smith shared her positivity regarding coparenting with Jackson in recent months. She reflected on the challenges of transitioning into shared parenting after a split. "It’s an adjustment period for anyone," she noted in an October Glamour interview. "Nobody hands you a manual... Each parent has a different life, complicating how you coparent."
In a November interview with Entertainment Tonight, Turner-Smith emphasized the importance of prioritizing their children's needs. She explained that, especially in the public eye, every parenting action is scrutinized. "You don’t want your kids to read anything and think anything," she stated. "Center the children and that’s all you can do. While nobody gets everything right, focusing on the right thing inspires you to do your best."
Joshua Jackson, who recently dated Lupita Nyong’o, has kept quiet about the ongoing divorce. In September, he offered a brief but heartfelt glimpse into his role as a father. He expressed that every moment with his daughter brings him joy. "I need to work while being a dad; that's my main priority," he shared.
