A video of a lion attacking a hyena that was just enjoying its prey has caught the interest of wildlife footage lovers.
The video was filmed and posted on the Animal Sighting YouTube channel. The sighting took place in the Maasai Mara National Reserve (Kenya).
Lions are the leading cause of hyena deaths in the Masai Mara. Male lions are twice the size of a spotted hyena and three to four times heavier, and a single paw swipe can seriously injure an adult animal.
Lions may stalk hyenas in their resting places and try to ambush hyenas approaching the hunting ground.
The male lion in this observation was very upset when he saw a pack of hyenas feasting on his prey. He immediately attacked and managed to capture one hyena, but was unable to kill it as the pack returned to rescue one of its members.
