A Spanish priest has been arrested on suspicion of illegally selling Viagra from his home. SSPDaily tells about it.
This is reported by Metro.
The clergyman was held in custody in the city of Don Benito in the western province of Badajoz near the Spanish border with Portugal.
Police arrested the suspect in the parish priest's home, where he lived with a man named as his partner, who was also detained after police searched the house.
The couple went to court on February 27, and the judge questioned them for more than four hours.
The priest, locally known as Alfonso Raul Masa Soto, was released on bail and ordered to report to the local court every two weeks.
Meanwhile, his partner is in jail pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. The arrests took place on February 26 after a week-long investigation.
It is said that Viagra was found in the priest's home, as well as other drugs called "strong aphrodisiacs."
The Diocese of Plasencia, to which Don Benito belongs, said it regrets the priest's detention because of the "pain and suffering" it entails.
The statement reads: "We await further clarification as the investigation continues. We are following its development with caution and respect for the people involved and stand ready to cooperate in whatever way is necessary."Meanwhile, locals describe the priest as a "very popular" man.
His lawyer, Jesus Carrereau, insisted that there was no evidence against him. He added: "What is being said about my client is false. Everything will be resolved as the investigation continues."
