Even the most successful and famous people are sometimes powerless against drug and alcohol addiction. SPPDaily spoke about 5 stars who resorted to illegal methods to find inspiration and cope with the pressure of fame.
Marilyn Monroe
Struggling with a creative crisis and personal turmoil, Monroe became addicted to drugs and sleeping pills. On the fateful evening of August 4, 1962, she turned to her friend Peter Lawford to say goodbye to her loved ones.
A few hours later, the actress was found lifeless in her bedroom. The official autopsy report confirmed that the cause of death was a drug overdose. Her untimely death caused a wave of suicides among her loyal fans.
Elvis Presley
Elvis Presley, the king of rock and roll, also struggled with this. Initially using drugs to enhance his performances, he gradually fell into a dangerous addiction. Despite attempts at rehabilitation, his addiction eventually led to his death on August 16, 1977.
His fiancée found him dead on the bathroom floor, but was unable to revive him. Heart failure caused by a drug overdose was the cause of his tragic end.
Kurt Cobain
Kurt Cobain, the enigmatic frontman of the band Nirvana, met the same tragic fate. Although the cause of his death was recognized as a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the autopsy revealed a lethal dose of heroin in his body. The celebrity's struggle with drugs began in his youth under the influence of his peers and older friends.
Despite his clinical death from an overdose, Cobain continued on a destructive path. His death on April 5, 1994, left many questions unanswered.
Anna Nicole Smith
Anna Nicole Smith, an iconic supermodel and actress, also fell victim to drug addiction. Fighting legal battles and being under constant stress, the star resorted to alcohol, drugs and sleeping pills to cope with the situation. Numerous plastic surgeries and the tragic loss of her son further exacerbated her addiction to psychoactive substances.
On February 8, 2007, Smith was found dead in a hotel room in Florida. An overdose of analgesics and sleeping pills took her life.
Whitney Houston
A similar fate befell Whitney Houston, a famous singer with a divine voice. The artist's struggle with drug addiction became known in 2000 when marijuana was found in her luggage. Her life turned into a roller coaster, with periods of rehabilitation and relapse.
On February 11, 2012, Houston was found unconscious in a hotel bathroom and could not be revived. The cause of her death was ruled as drowning due to atherosclerosis and cocaine use.
