An angry mother beat up a stranger in a pub when he made a mistake and failed to guess her real age.
This was reported by SSPDaily.
The incident took place on September 9 last year at the Unicorn pub in Manchester, UK. Joanne Dodd, 39, was having a drink with her sister and chatting carefree with Carl Cooper and his friend. Soon the conversation turned to the topic of age and Carl suggested that Joanne was 43 years old.
To avoid a quarrel, the man went to the restroom, but when he came out, Dodd attacked him and stabbed him twice in the face with a glass of wine.
Carl suffered a 10-centimeter wound that almost hit his eye, as well as an injury to his thumb.Dodd faced three years in prison after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm, but was instead sentenced to a suspended sentence.
Judge Elizabeth Nicholls said the single mother was a "dedicated, hard-working woman" who posed no risk to society.
She added: "You didn't appreciate Cooper's comments and one person's jokes may be offensive to other people, but that doesn't excuse what you did afterwards. It is widely recognized that you are a dedicated, hard-working woman and undoubtedly a loving mother. It is right that you have felt remorse from the very beginning of the events at the police station. But perhaps even more importantly, you are the mother of a young child. While your child will no doubt be taken care of, immediate imprisonment would have a devastating impact on your child. It would be disproportionate to the punishment to be imposed."
Her lawyer, Mark Friend, told the court that she suffered from "low self-esteem and self-respect" at the time.
Dodd was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to perform 180 hours of unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay £800 in compensation to her victim.
