Airline rules and regulations are designed to ensure your comfort and safety, as well as the comfort and safety of everyone else on board. But there are also a lot of unspoken things you should follow when you're in the sky.
LifeSavvy spoke to two flight attendants about the travel mistakes they commonly see and what they recommend doing instead. SSPDaily learned more about these mistakes.
According to Christa Treat, who has been working as a flight attendant for 15 years, using the airplane's restroom during the boarding process is a fairly common mistake. The problem is that flight attendants are not allowed to close the plane doors when someone is in the restroom, so you can delay the flight. Christa recommends using the restroom at the airport before your flight.
One of the most common mistakes Katie, a flight attendant who has been working for eight years, sees when traveling is that people take off their shoes on the plane. She advise against traveling on an airplane without shoes at all. "I've seen so many people, including some celebrities, go into the bathroom with their socks on. Let me tell you: there is not always water on the floor," she warned.
Christa recommends packing everything you think you'll need for the flight without relying on the airplane service. She also noted that there are delays that can make your trip much longer than expected, so it's best to be as prepared as possible.
Another mistake is that passengers often buy tickets for their family at different ends of the plane, and then they have problems with changing seats.
Flight attendants also advise against overdoing it with the amount of drinks on board even if they are free. "Many people don't realize that at high altitudes and with a lack of oxygen, you can get intoxicated very quickly," Christa said.
She also recommends checking whether you have downloaded movies and music to your gadget so that you don't have to bother the staff on the plane with questions about why they won't start.
And finally, passengers are not advised to jump out of their seats immediately after the announcement of the plane's landing as this will create a stampede and discomfort in the cabin.
