SSPDaily has prepared tips on how to get rid of moles on the site. Learn about humane ways to solve the situation.
Mole netting to protect lawns
To protect your lawn from moles, you can use a plastic mesh laid horizontally. Remove the top layer of soil and level any unevenness. Add a drainage layer if necessary.
Lay the mesh in rows, overlapping each other periodically, and secure it with pegs or staples. Fill the area with a fertile layer of soil up to 5 cm thick, making sure that mole tunnels do not extend beyond the mesh.
Mole repellents
Repellents are a humane and environmentally friendly solution to keep moles off your property. They create unfavorable conditions that encourage moles to leave on their own. These devices emit vibration, low-frequency sounds, or ultrasonic pulses that irritate moles and rodents.
Mole pellets
Pellets containing poison are considered inhumane and ineffective. Moles are more interested in live food, such as May beetle larvae, so pellets are a less attractive option. Even if one mole is successfully poisoned, others are unlikely to follow suit.
Fencing against moles
To prevent the appearance of new moles, install a fence around the perimeter of your site. A deep ditch filled with slate or stones can be used as a fence. Alternatively, you can use metal mesh or other fencing materials.
The fence should go 80-100 cm underground and be at least 20 cm high. Such barriers become insurmountable obstacles for moles, forcing them to dig passages in other places.
