Morning or evening: when is the best time to water plants
SSPDaily has prepared an article on when it is better to water plants – in the morning or in the evening. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages, so let's take a closer look at them.
Enthusiasts of morning watering claim that it allows plants to create a supply of moisture for the whole day, and excess water has time to evaporate. This helps prevent the development of fungal diseases, especially in conditions of high humidity.
On the other hand, evening watering has its advantages. Evening watering provides the plants with enough moisture to last through the night, which leads to more efficient water use.
Advantages and disadvantages of morning watering
One of the advantages is that plants receive enough water and minerals throughout the day, which allows them to cope with rising temperatures and stimulates growth. However, a potential disadvantage is that by the evening, plants may have exhausted most of their moisture reserves, which will affect their growth potential.
The next day, the plant activates photosynthesis and transpiration, but if it lacks water, this can negatively affect the overall yield. In addition, if plants are saturated with moisture in the morning, their fruits may crack as they try to replenish the lost water.
Advantages and disadvantages of evening watering
When it comes to evening watering, plants receive enough water to grow at this time. However, if the amount of water is insufficient, the plant may experience a lack of water during the sunny hours of the next day. This can lead to wilting of leaves, reduced absorption of solar energy and CO₂, reduced photosynthetic efficiency, and ultimately reduced nutrient uptake by the plant.
