Related to the Polovtsian tribes: a list of Ukrainian surnames that appeared in the Middle Ages
Often, surnames were created on the basis of a certain social stratum, which included their first bearers. But there are also those that were associated with the Polovtsians. This is written in the group "Ridni - Genealogical Society" on the social network Facebook.
The Polovtsians were a medieval Turkic people who inhabited the Eurasian steppe from the Danube to the Irtysh River in the XI-XIV centuries. Around the eleventh century, the Polovtsians settled in the Ukrainian steppes. By the XIII century, they had close cultural, military, political, and trade relations with Georgia, Byzantium, Hungary, Albania, and Bulgaria.

According to experts, these surnames are extremely rare today. However, they still occur. For example, the surname Dulepa today has 159 bearers and is most common in the Kamianets-Podilskyi district. And the family name Kobiak today is borne by only 54 people. It is found in the Sokal district (Lviv region), Kyiv, Orikhiv district (Zaporizhzhia region), Donetsk and Mariupol.
