A plane belonging to the British airline Virgin Atlantic unexpectedly accelerated to supersonic speed due to strong winds.
This incident was reported by SSPDaily.
It occurred last weekend during a flight from Washington to London.
The aircraft reached a speed exceeding 1300 km/h. Interestingly, at a similar altitude, the speed of sound is only 1062 km/h.
Passengers were left astonished. Some travelers managed to capture video footage showing the situation inside the cabin.
In the video, you can hear passengers screaming and witness many of them holding onto the seats in front of them as the plane began to shake violently.
The US National Weather Service stated on X: "This evening's weather balloon launch revealed the second strongest upper altitude winds recorded in local history dating back to the mid-20th century. At an altitude of 10,000-10,600 meters, the wind reached a maximum speed of about 426 km per hour! For those flying east on this plane, there will be a strong tailwind."
Additionally, it was reported that another aircraft traveling from New Jersey to Lisbon reached a speed of 1344 km/h.
