Why you shouldn't put empty bottles on the table: superstitious beliefs
Everyone has heard the saying "don't put an empty bottle on the table". SSPDaily examined why this peculiar superstition can be justified, including from the point of view of common sense.
An empty bottle is often associated with a sinister meaning. Many believe that it attracts devastation and poverty into our lives. This emptiness can manifest itself in the form of a lack of material wealth or on a deeper, emotional level. For the same reason, it is warned not to leave plates without food, as well as salad bowls or cups on the dining room table.
In addition, it is said that a household with empty bottles on the table will not see financial prosperity and abundance. Folk wisdom says that open empty bottles hide negative energy, and their placement on kitchen furniture "pollutes" the entire environment.
The origins of this tradition can be traced back to historical evidence. In the early 19th century, Cossacks who found themselves in France encountered a practice where the bill in establishments was calculated based on the number of empty bottles left on the table. The Cossacks cleverly removed some flasks to reduce the final cost.
In addition to superstition and historical information, there are practical reasons to avoid empty bottles on the table. They can become obstacles, taking up valuable space and causing inconvenience. They are also less stable and pose a risk of tipping over and damaging other dishes.
