A 98-year-old grandmother got her first tattoo in honor of her grandson.
SSPDaily tells about it.
Winifred Pinner from Birmingham intended to raise money for the mental health charity Mind after her 34-year-old grandson Jamie committed suicide.
Jamie often told his family about his mental health issues as he had suffered from depression for over a decade.
She came up with the idea for the fundraiser a few months after his death in September.
"On the first day of the new year, I was sitting and thinking about him and it seemed like he was laughing at me and making jokes. I said: "Yes, I will get a tattoo with your name on it!". I saw him laughing and heard him reply: "Silly old nanny!" she recalled, noting that this is how it all started.
She said that getting the tattoo from her granddaughter Gemma was a "comfort" to her. The pensioner described the experience as "amazing," saying, "It's much better than I thought it would be."
The fact that the tattoo was done by her granddaughter, surrounded by family, made the experience extra special.
She said: "It's nice to know that Gemma is doing it. With anyone else, I would have felt a little weird."
The family hoped it would inspire others to open up about their mental health and also raise funds for Mind.
"I think about all the people who donated, supported me and said kind words. It all helps," she said.
