In Canada, a student travels to class by plane because of the sky-high rental prices in Vancouver. SSPDaily tells about it.
This was reported by CTV News Canada.
Tim Chen is originally from Calgary. He used to live in Vancouver while studying at UBC, but in the fall he gave up his rented apartment when he went on vacation.
When he returned, he was shocked by the prices.
"When I checked the price of the house, I thought: "Oh, shit, it's gone up a lot!". I had to pay about $2,500 for rent, so I don't feel like it's viable."
He started looking at airfares from Calgary to Vancouver and realized they were about $150 round trip. He attends classes twice a week at the university.
"I thought, why don't I just stay in Calgary and then just fly here, it's about an hour flight, it's the same as taking the bus," he said.
In total, he pays about $1200 a month for flights while he lives at home with his parents in Calgary. In the end, this is much cheaper than the average price of a one-bedroom apartment in Vancouver, which is about $2,100.
"I have a total of three hours of classes, and after class I get back on the bus and go back to the airport!" said Chen.
