After several incidents of attacks on security guards, US President Joe Biden 's two-year-old German shepherd, Commander, was evicted from the presidential residence in October last year.
SSPDaily tells about it.
One of the incidents occurred at the presidential beach house on Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. The commander bit a Secret Service agent while walking.
According to the report, the bite caused a serious open wound, and the agent lost a significant amount of blood and required six stitches. More than 10 identical incidents also required medical treatment.
Commander, the dog's name, arrived at the White House in 2021 when he was still a puppy. He was a gift from Joe Biden's younger brother, James.
He became the second dog of the president's family to be kicked out of the White House. Previously, Major, a German shepherd adopted by the Bidens from an animal shelter in 2018, suffered the same fate. This pet of the White House also attacked people. In November 2020, the president even broke his leg while playing with Major.
The Bidens believed that the dog's uncontrollable behavior was provoked by the stressful environment in the White House. Eventually, the dog was sent to live with friends of the president in Delaware.
Biden's other German shepherd, Champ, was more docile. She died in 2021, when she was 13 years old.
In general, pets are a long-standing tradition in the White House. For example, Bill Clinton had a cat as a pet. Barack Obama had a Portuguese water dog named Bo. John Quincy Adams and Benjamin Harrison kept alligators. Martin Van Buren had two tiger cubs, and William Henry Harris had a cow.
Abraham Lincoln had a large menagerie: a pig, two goats, a couple of dogs, a turkey, and a horse. And Theodore Roosevelt had more than 40 pets, including a snake, guinea pigs, several dogs, and a lizard.
Earlier, it was reported that US President Joe Biden's two-year-old German shepherd bit a US Secret Service officer who works in the presidential guard. This is the eleventh time since October 2022 that the president's dog has attacked someone. The president's wife, Jill Biden, noted that the White House can be a stressful environment for pets.
