Doctors are astonished: a man has not consumed anything but Coca-Cola for 50 years
A pensioner from Brazil claims that he has only been drinking Coca-Cola for the past 50 years.
This is reported by the SSPDaily.
Roberto Pedreira, 70, says he hasn't consumed water since he was a young boy, which has puzzled medical professionals. Even when he was in the hospital fighting Covid-19, he told doctors he wanted to wash down his pills with a glass of soda, not water.
He told local media: "I haven't had water in 50 years. I don't like water."
Roberto said he prefers Coke Zero, which was launched in 2005, and before that he drank regular Coke. His godson, 27-year-old Joao Paixao, said: "To someone who doesn't know him, it might not seem like it's true, and it's pretty incredible. He even drinks soda with ice cream."
His family confirmed that despite his unusual diet, he managed to beat Covid-19 and has never been seriously ill.
João added: "He just prefers to drink soda, but he takes care of himself. He goes to all the hospitals, takes all the medications. But the problem with drinking alcohol doesn't change much."
Nutritionist Grace Furlanetto Arraes warned that soft drinks should never replace water. She said: "Soda is not a substitute for water, nor are regular soft drinks, nor are zero-sugar soft drinks. Conventional soft drinks are rich in sugar and additives, high in calories, and contribute to weight gain and, consequently, to elevated plasma glucose levels, increasing the risk of developing diabetes and other chronic non-communicable diseases."
