Gatwick Train Cancelled Due to Squirrels
Two squirrels caused a train service cancellation during rush hour heading to Gatwick.
They jumped aboard the Great Western Railway (GWR) 8:54 am service from Reading on Monday. Passengers were compelled to change carriages to avoid the unexpected visitors.
Despite attempts by staff to lure the squirrels off the train at Redhill with snacks, efforts proved futile. Staff resorted to using brooms, but the squirrels remained adamant and did not leave. Ultimately, the train operators decided to cancel the journey.
A GWR spokesperson humorously noted the incident. "We can confirm that the 8:54 Reading to Gatwick was terminated at Redhill after a couple of squirrels boarded without tickets, breaching railway bye-laws," the spokesperson remarked.
Efforts to evict the squirrels were unsuccessful, with one refusing to leave. As a final resolution, one squirrel was returned to Reading to put an end to this "nutty tale."
