An Oklahoma judge who sent more than 500 text messages during a murder trial has resigned.
SSPDaily tells about it.
Tracy Soderstrom was caught sending hundreds of messages to her assistant from the bench while monitoring the trial in the murder of a two-year-old boy, including SMS messages where she mocked prosecutors.
Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice John Kane recommended Soderstrom's removal after an investigation found that she mocked prosecutors, laughed at comments about a prosecutor's genitals, called a defense attorney "awesome" and a key witness a "liar."
All of this was caught on CCTV.
She was threatened with dismissal on charges that included gross neglect of duty, harassment in office, lack of temperament, and inability to control her position.
As a result, the judge resigned herself. She also agreed not to run for judgeship in Oklahoma, which allowed her to avoid a complicated removal procedure and to keep her pension.
