Sunscreen is not enough: experts give advice on sun protection
Dermatologists say that while sunscreen does provide some protection from the sun, it's better to also have physical barriers, such as wearing a wide-brimmed hat and clothing that protects against UV light. SSPDaily prepared a few tips for better protection.
As it turned out, summer linen shirts are not suitable for a sun-protective wardrobe, but don't worry - you can add Rit Dye SunGuard to your wash cycle, as it provides sun protection for 20 washes, writes the South China Morning Post.
"Sunscreen does offer some protection, but there are caveats. Often, our application methods are inadequate, so it's easy to miss spots, underuse or wipe off sunscreen while applying makeup," said Dr. Heather Kornmel, board-certified dermatologist and skin cancer surgery specialist in Houston, Texas.
"Many sunscreens are also great at blocking UVB rays, but may not work as well on UVA rays - especially American products," said dermatologist Dr. Ellen Handler.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, UVB rays cause sunburn, and UVA rays are linked to skin aging. Both can lead to skin cancer.
Certain clothes can be a physical barrier. But you don't have to buy a whole new sun protection wardrobe. Dr. Abby Waldman, a board-certified dermatologist, fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and associate professor of dermatology at Harvard University, says you can add Rit Dye SunGuard to your wash cycle to provide sun protection for up to 20 years.
