Three lovers, a man and two women, officially became the parents of a child and were included in the birth certificate.
SSPDaily tells about it.
Jamil, 34, became pregnant shortly after she started dating Ruan, 28, and Natalia, 27. The woman gave birth to a boy, Bernardo, in 2022, and now the 16-month-old's birth certificate will include the names of his mother and father.
The boy will not only have many surnames, but also numerous relatives, as he will grow up surrounded by six grandparents.
In February, a judge in the family's hometown of Fortaleza, Brazil, ruled that all parents have the right to be identified on official documents.
They said: "There is no doubt about the existence of a mother-child relationship, given the emotional bond between them that characterizes a true socio-affective relationship. Therefore, it can be extrapolated from this entire process that the second author can also be considered a socio-affective mother of a minor."
Emphasizing this news, Jamil's mother told Diario do Nordeste: "It was very important for us. It was not only Natalia's right as a mother, but also Bernardo's right. It brings us a lot of happiness."
After Bernardo's birth, the court required a visit from a psychologist and a social worker to analyze the couple's relationship before making a decision.
"When the psychologist came, I said that sharing motherhood with Natalia was very easy and wonderful," Jamil said. "Based on this evidence and the psychologist's visit, the lawyer filed a motion and the judge rejected the social worker's visit."
The trio has been dating for three and a half years. Their relationship began after Jamil and Ruan, who were already married, decided to expand their lives and got together with Natalia.
The 27-year-old also shared her dream of having a child.
"We were already planning to have a child. Natalia took care of everything: prenatal consultations, cleaning the room, and buying clothes. When we found out about the pregnancy, she already knew everything about humane childbirth," Jamil said.
But Jamil said that the joy of expecting a child was at odds with the worry that Natalia would not be recognized as Bernardo's mother. That is why the trio started the legal process as early as possible, as Jamil was six months pregnant with their son.
Family law expert Ana Cavalcante, who took on the case, explained: "In the first half of 2022, I was approached by Natalia, who told me that she was living in a polyamorous union in the form of a tripartite relationship. She told me that Jamil was six months pregnant and explained that she wanted social motherhood to be recognized."
Cavalcante added that Jamil, Natalia and Ruan have the same parental responsibilities: "If the relationship breaks down, for example, all three parents have the right to child support."
The family is now waiting for court documents to arrive so they can go to the registry office and add Natalia's name to Bernardo's birth certificate.
They said: "This unity, being surrounded by people who understand and support us, helps a lot. Bernardo will face the challenges of prejudice, but he is being raised to be proud of his family."
