What are modern people most afraid of and what phobias are considered the most common in society? It turns out that most fears in the twenty-first century are related to technology, or rather, to its breakdown or lack of functionality.
According to the Mirror, this list includes sending a text message to the wrong address, the lack of signal from a telecom operator, and fears about the state of the phone's battery. In particular, the British named the fear of getting stuck in an elevator, being late for a plane, dropping the phone and breaking the screen, sending a message to the wrong person, and deleting a finished project from a computer before you have time to press the "Save" button among their top 20 phobias.
At the same time, almost half (45%) said that it would be a nightmare for them to be left without a phone for at least one day, and 42% have "nomophobia" - the fear of being left without communication at all.
The study also showed that more than a quarter of respondents (27%) are afraid of running out of mobile data, and one in five is more afraid of becoming a "ghost" on a dating app than of meeting a real ghost.
At the same time, when asked what you would rather do than be without a phone for a week, 14% of respondents said swimming with sharks, and 23% said holding a tarantula.
And while people are still afraid of heights (38%), spiders (31%), and roller coasters (24%), a fifth of respondents believe that their position on the "modern list" is scarier than traditional horrors.
In addition, 29% said that over the past five years, their greatest fears have changed and new phobias have replaced old ones.
