Shakhtar dramatically avoided defeat in the first match of the Europa League playoffs against Marseille (video)
Shakhtar Donetsk drew with French side Marseille in the first leg of the Europa League last 16. The match at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, Germany, ended with a score of 2-2. SSPDaily tells about it.
Due to the war with the Russian occupiers, the Shakhtar were forced to play their nominally home match abroad.
In the first half, the teams did not create many chances, but the ball still found its way into the Provence goal.
In the 27th minute, Eginaldo scored into an empty net after Danilo Sikan fought with Marseille goalkeeper Pau Lopez and passed to the Brazilian. But this happened after the referee's whistle, who decided to stop the game due to a foul against Oleksandr Zubkov and award a free kick in favor of Shakhtar.
In the second half, Marseille managed to open the scoring. In the 64th minute, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fired a shot at Dmytro Riznyk's goal at the far post after a pass from Jonathan Kloss on the right flank.
Marino Pušić's men managed to quickly get back into the game. In the 68th minute, Mykola Matvienko took advantage of a mistake by Kloss, who missed the ball in his own penalty area, and scored accurately in the bottom right corner.
