Natural fertilizers are not only environmentally friendly products, but also significant budget savings. SSPDaily tells about it.

Find out how you can make fertilizers for your garden at home and how to use them on your plot.

Eggshells

Do not throw away eggshells, they are rich in nutrients and especially calcium. The shells effectively deoxidize the soil and help fight pests. It is ideal for sandy soils. It is most effective to add crushed shells to the holes when planting plants, and you can also mulch the soil with them.

Peel from citrus fruits

The infusion of citrus peels, due to the high concentration of essential oils, is ideal for fertilizing the soil and controlling pests. Take citrus peels and water in a 1:1 ratio and leave them to steep for several days, filter and spray the leaves of the plants and the soil underneath. Do this early in the morning or after sunset so that it does not get on the plants.

Banana peel

Banana peels are organic waste that enrich the soil with nitrogen, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and iron. You can mulch your plants with strips of banana peel or make a liquid fertilizer. To do this, cut the banana peels into small pieces and soak them in a bucket of water. Leave for a few days, then strain the liquid and use it to water the plants.

Potato peelings

Potato peels contain a lot of potassium and iodine. To use them as a fertilizer, they must be dried, crushed, boiled, cooled, and watered at the root of the plants.

Coffee grounds

Coffee grounds are ideal for plants that like acidic soil. For example, these can be tomatoes, carrots, or melon. Add 200 g of grounds to 10 liters of water and leave to stand for a day. The fertilizer for watering plants, including flowers, is ready. You can also mulch the soil with coffee grounds. It helps retain moisture and repels pests.

Milk

Milk is high in minerals. It is ideal for fertilizing cucumbers, and it also helps fight fungal diseases in plants. You can spray the plants with milk at intervals of three to four times over a period of two weeks.

Honey

Plants love honey. Rich in calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, zinc and magnesium, it is recommended for plant nutrition. Dissolve one to two tablespoons of honey in two liters of water. Mix well and use this solution to water your plants. Apply this liquid fertilizer once every two weeks.

Herbal infusion

Soak any grass from the area in water for one and a half to two weeks. The container with the soaked herb should be tightly closed so that no oxygen gets into it. The resulting fertilizer can be added to vegetable crops. To make the solution ferment more efficiently, you can add any expired fermented milk product to it for the duration of the settling period.

Ash

Ash is rich in trace elements and has an alkaline reaction. It is most often used during pre-winter soil digging. Ash can also be added to substrates and, together with them, to the planting site.

Yeast

After yeast fertilization, plants absorb nutrients from the soil and begin to grow actively. This is one of the simplest and most affordable fertilizers known to gardeners.

It is important to use high-quality yeast that is suitable for use within the specified time frame. You can't store the yeast mixture for a long time; it's best to use it in a day.

To feed the seedlings, 10 g of yeast and 1 liter of water are enough. Dissolve the yeast in warm water. Then add 2 tbsp of sugar and some ash to the mixture. Let it brew for several hours. Then dilute the mixture in 10 liters of water and water the seedlings generously.

You can also use pressed yeast to make a seedling fertilizer. You will need 100 g of yeast and 10 liters of warm water. Dissolve the yeast and add 5 tbsp of sugar. You can add a little ash. Let the mixture stand for a day in a warm place.

Then the mixture of pressed yeast can be diluted with additional water.

This fertilization is best suited for garden and indoor plants. It is especially recommended for seedlings of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, herbs and berries. Do not use yeast fertilizer for onions, garlic, potatoes, and sweet potatoes.

You need to feed the seedlings in this way three times:

  1. Fertilize in early spring.
  2. Fertilize a week before planting in the ground (increase watering per bed three times).
  3. In the process of seedling growth, you can feed it again. The amount of the mixture should be doubled from the previous time.
