Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot is in Talks with Sarah Michelle Gellar

Sarah Michelle Gellar is in negotiations to return as Buffy Summers in a revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, according to E! News. This new project marks a significant revival of the beloved series.
More than two decades after the original show ended, Gellar is finalizing discussions to reprise her iconic role for Hulu. The upcoming series, which currently lacks a title, is being promoted as "the next chapter in the Buffyverse," produced by 20th Television and Searchlight TV.

The first episode of this sequel series will be directed by Oscar winner Chloe Zhao. However, original creator Joss Whedon is not expected to take part due to allegations of misconduct that came to light in 2021.
Just a day before news surfaced, Gellar appeared to tease the reboot on Instagram. She shared a photo on February 2, wearing "yummy sushi pajamas" reminiscent of her outfit from a season four episode of the original series. Her caption exclusively featured a sushi emoji.
While Gellar may soon return to a supernatural role, she will not be reprising Helen Shivers from the I Know What You Did Last Summer series. Although her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., will appear in the reboot due out this July, Gellar stated, "I am dead," regarding her character's fate.
Nonetheless, she has some involvement in the new project. Gellar mentioned that her best friend, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, is directing the reboot. "We joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity," she said. Gellar added that she's involved by advising on character decisions, saying, "I always tell her, ‘Well, that would happen, or that wouldn't happen with those characters.’"
